The Lutheran Episcopal Volunteer Network (LEVN) is an intentional program where people transform their communities and transform their lives. The LEVN program begins each year with orientation during the last week of August, and each volunteer serves 40 hours a week at a non-profit or ministry organization in the Davis-Woodland-Sacramento area from September through July. Volunteers meet every Monday night for worship, dinner, and discussion to reflect on the connections between our faith and our service to the world. Weekly meetings with program directors center on spiritual, vocational, and personal discernment.
We go on retreat together four times during the year to step back from our work and home environments by visiting different areas of Northern California. Volunteers are also involved in one of our local partner congregations, and are provided the opportunity to meet with a spiritual director for monthly reflection. In the beginning of the program, a Rule of Life is created to guide our year of intentional community living.
LEVN is a program of the Belfry, and LEVN volunteers live in housing behind the campus ministry center. The two programs are separate, but complementary. That is, LEVN volunteers can use the building for fellowship activities and are welcome at campus ministry events, but the two programs are very distinct. The location of the Belfry offers easy walking access to UC Davis, downtown Davis, and the local public transportation systems.
